Tears, idle tears, I know not what they mean, Tears from the depths of some devine despair Rise in the heart, and gather to the eyes, In looking on the happy autumn fields, And thinking of the days that are no more.
Corbin's aunt here again. We lost our son and Corbin lost his closest cousin and our daughter Jean Gray lost her brother William when William was in 8th grade - a sledding accident. Jean Gray was at boarding school at the time. One quote that especially spoke to her was:
Parting is all we know of heaven and all we need to know of hell. ~Emily Dickinson.
A powerful quote.
Also, after losing William, I remember reading that loss adds a minor chord to life. As you go forward, and especially during family gatherings, the minor chord weaves itself into the harmonies and melodies, adding a fullness, texture and dissonance. I know that chord was playing loud and ever-present when y'all were playing football this weekend.
Hello Aunt Ellen! Thank you so much for visiting and for sharing that story (and the quote!). I so enjoyed meeting you at my graduation many years ago and recently at Corbin's wedding. I wish you peace for the holidays! Love, Elizabeth
