Sometimes when you're in a dark place you think you've been buried, but you've actually been planted. Bloom.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains,and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the mouldering past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
And the days are dark and dreary.
Be still, sad heart, and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

in celebration of surviving
when senselessness has pounded you around on the ropes
and you’re getting too old to hold out for the future
no work and running out of money,
and then you make a try after something that you know you won’t get
and this long shot comes through on the stretch
in a photo finish of your heart’s trepidation
then for a while
even the chill factor of these prairie winters puts it at fifty below
you’re warm and have that old feeling
of being a comer, though belated
in the crazy game of live
standing in the winter night
emptying the garbage and looking at the stars
you realize although the odds are fantastically against you
when that single January shooting star
flung its wad in the maw of night
it was yours
and though the years are edged with crime and squalor
that second wind, or twenty-third
is coming strong
and for a time
perhaps a very short time
one lives as though in a golden envelope of light

There are stars whose radiance is visible on Earth though they have long been extinct. There are people whose brilliance continues to light the world even though they are no longer among the living. These lights are particularly bright when the night is dark. They light the way for mankind.

They say in each life a little rain must fall
But I will carry on and make it through it all
They say in each life a little rain must fall
But I will carry on and make it through it all and
Shine
Even though the stars aren't smiling on me tonight
I won't let the darkness steal the sunshine
Dim the spotlight on my life
Cause the sun's always been a friend of mine
And he and I are gonna part the clouds in the sky
And shine shine shine.

Chin up. Put your shoulders back, walk proud, strut a little. Don’t lick your wounds, celebrate them. The scars you bare are the signs of a competitor. You’re in a lion fight. Just because you didn’t win, doesn’t mean you don’t know how to roar.

When the rain, breaks the road
Are you holding on, are you holding on
To your last good day
When the stone breaks the wheel
Are you holding, are you holding on
Til the stone rolls away
And I don't know
Is this the part where you let go
And tumbling out of a window
Is this the part where you find out I'm there
For you.
Are you holding on, are you holding on
To your last good day
When the stone breaks the wheel
Are you holding, are you holding on
Til the stone rolls away
And I don't know
Is this the part where you let go
And tumbling out of a window
Is this the part where you find out I'm there
For you.
